Otis, I can't do this because I don't know how to scratch, but somebody should: play one of the tracks on this LP, and when the guy says "repeat after me", play his recitation (while scratching the record) and then play the woman's voice repeating his recitation (while scratching the record in exactly the same way)

Regarding that "Altered States" cut, some helpful additional info from WFMU's own Devon "Morricone Island" Levins: "I don't have much additional to add except that I know it was recorded in LA in 1979 and always assumed it was the LA Philharmonic Orchestra because Ken Russell notoriously discovered Corigliano's music by seeing by chance the LAPO perform one of his pieces before Also Sprach Zarathustra at a concert he attended while working on the film. It could also otherwise be the Hollywood Studio Symphony who were used for many large budget Hollywood films at the time. Corigliano has said in interviews that the "U.S. musicians" on that recording are some of the highest caliber with whom he had ever worked."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm
ironybread:

Also, on the original LP the track "Second Hallucination" is helpfully credited to Glenn Dicterow, Violin; Sheldon Shkolnik, piano; and Eleanor Aller, Cello. Based on this Devon adds the following: "Glenn Dicterow was a Concertmaster for the LAPO in 1979 before becoming the NYPO's Concertmaster in 1980. Eleanor Aller, on the other hand, was a member of the Warner Brothers Studio Orchestra since the 30s, actually the first woman to hold a principal chair in a Hollywood studio orchestra. Although she was most known for the Hollywood String Quartet which she founded in the 50s, she often performed with the LAPO. My guess is some combination of the LAPO and Warner Brothers Studio Orchestra staff musicians."

Taylor, Altered States was the last movie I ever saw at The Graumans Chinese Theater in Hollywood. In a recent conversation with my doctor she commented how willing I was to follow directions regarding drug protocols. I told her I was like William Hurt in Altered States. She's young and pretty straight so I don't think she got the inference.
