Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
Sam Segal:

Coel! WR! Thanks for bringing your stability or lack thereof to bear on tonight's proceedings!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
Sam Segal:

Good guess, Coel. It was actually the Superfluous Equine Emporium.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
coelacanth∅:

yeah i checked out their prices. seemed too good to be true.
-so i went to The Glue Factory.
it seemed like an odd name for a horse seller but so far, so good.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
coelacanth∅:

...the thing i liked is their trade-in contract.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm

the BLG sounded great, was my first taste.

“ Reflecting on the meaning of the music in a prologue he wrote for Open Arms to Open Us, Gay says the album’s title is “a suggestion of a body movement that is used in many spiritual practices and is also a gesture that represents a type of understanding that leads to touch or a hug.”

www.nonesuch.com...

looks forward to hearing the rest
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm
Sam Segal:

And you'll get to hear it sooner than I thought...it actually comes out this Friday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm
Sam Segal:

The liner notes included on the album's bandcamp page written by Ben LaMar Gay are really thoughtful and interesting: intlanthem.bandcamp.com...

nice. and looks like a few other tunes to sample in the meantime. not usually a huge fan or color vinyl but that blue looks nice on the colorful cover art

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
Sam Segal:

Keep swinging that pickaxe, Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
Sam Segal:

Or maybe not a pickaxe. Maybe something more modern...a jackhammer perhaps.

Hi been this and that-ing in the kitchen

DL in LA:

Sam, the LA is Los Angeles. But this reminds me of a recent thought. Stewart Brand once said that culture happens in big cities. But I think with the Internet, increasingly culture happens among the densely networked. What do you think?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm
Franco Twinkie:

Yes DL, cultural dispersion is more democratized than ever before, but try and find a taco on your confuser that stands up to the exacting scrutiny of a real human beating the cement in Los Angeles.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
doctorjazz:

PDP III is cool! (listening while getting some work done-have been banished from the bedroom, headphones downstairs)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
doctorjazz:

(as is the Nick Zanca)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm
Sam Segal:

I agree with you, DL. With the internet, a person living in the middle of nowhere could have access to artistic influences that in another time they would have been cut off from because they couldn't be in the physical spaces where those artistic movements were occurring. It is both democratizing, like Franco says, and a bit of a shame, because regional artistic scenes seemed to create less homogenous art. But what do I know? I am a millennial who has only ever lived in an internet saturated culture.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm
Sam Segal:

Glad to provide some good headphone tunes to keep you company in your exile, Doc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm
Sam Segal:

Also, the Stewart Brand reference reminded me of this book which might interest you, DL. Maybe you've already heard of it. press.uchicago.edu...

Also, hello, Franco!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm

Tacos are good, and huaraches are even better.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:52pm
doctorjazz:

Very cool set, Sam!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:55pm
chresti:

Thanks Sam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm
Franco Twinkie:

Sorry Sam, but case in point - you live in Brooklyn, correct? A taco or any other foldable item of gustatory or intellectual (an esoteric broad sheet or 'zine perhaps?) consumption is within walking distance of your front door. We rarely consider the paucity of what we city dwellers take for granted until we drive out of our comfort zone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am
Sam Segal:

Taco access is one of the big advantages to living in Brooklyn, it is true, Franco.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:01am
doctorjazz:

Yeah, but is it a taco like you'd get in L.A. (methinks not).
Anyway, great show (what I caught), Sam, thanks
Avatar 🥁 12:02am
DL in LA:

Sam, thanks that book looks interesting. I’ll take a better look at it later. You might like some of the talks at longnow.org as it’s an organization that was started by Stewart Brand.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:02am
coelacanth∅:

Thanks Sam!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:04am
WR:

Sam, curiously, your outro music being part of my covid fever nightmares has become a distant indistinct memory.

Thank you for the curation of recordings.

Laters all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05am
Franco Twinkie:

Thanks Sam.
  12:05am
rw:

Thank you Sam!! Night all.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:05am
WR:

Franco, some day we will explore tacos and tamales together.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08am

You know it, WR!
