A three-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

Spires looks like it could be some kind of weird evangelist record . . . like their "artistic" nephew was responsible for the drawings. I'd like to see Kruder and Dorfmeister get the same graphic treatment

It could well have been intentionally bad, but in 1981 probably not. I was making bad graphic art with presstype in that year as well

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm
Kat in Chicago:

The reissue cover might be worse, it's trying awfully hard
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm
Zipperhead7:

Jeez I used to use presstype for cassette covers. It led a former girlfriend to reject me as OCD. Do they still make presstype?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm

If you don't know who they are the name on the reissue is just confusing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
chresti:

I still have sheets of rub-on letters
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
Kat in Chicago:

Zipperhead, I spent much of the 80s doing graphics for a Chicago music venue with Letraset and that vinyl Formatt stuff you could cut letters and images out of. I don't think you can get it any more in the post-Macintosh era.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm
Kat in Chicago:

It was made for graphic designers in ad agencies to do mockups and such. No real need for it now. chresti, I bet they're all crumbly and cracked now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm
Kat in Chicago:

I used to sell that stuff in an art store (and stole a lot of it)

There were kits you could buy. He made his from scratch?

Rich in Washington:

I recall seeing the Buttholes on Halloween night and it was super trippy, fog machines, etc. Right in the middle a procession of people dressed like medieval monks worked their way through the club.
Years later found out it was local Cacophony Society members. The crashed a bunch of shows around town that way apparently.

Wow, i didn't remember this, but when River Phoenix croaked outside the Viper Room (where a few years later I met Mrs Fab, btw) "On stage, performing was Johnny Depp’s band, P, which included Depp, Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Gibby Haynes (Butthole Surfers), Benmont Tench (Tom Petty Band), and Al Jourgensen (Ministry). Other notable mentions in attendance include John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Bob Forrest (Thelonious Monster), and Christina Applegate."

Rudy Schwartz:

I was in a warmup band for the Buttholes in Austin in the late 80s. Backstage, Gibby was filling a balloon with Karo syrup and red food coloring, and I wondered how that might come into play. During their first set, he reached into his pants and spent a minute or two fondling his groin. Then he burst the balloon inside his pants, and it looked like his crotch was exploding, while he had this fucked up smile on his face.
