I scored the deluxe Criterion Collection version of Two Lane Blacktop for a buck at a yard sale over the summer, but haven't had the time to enjoy it yet. Dennis Wilson barely speaks but he's fantastic in that film. I want to make it a double feature with Electra Glide In Blue one of these nights

Hey, Kevin! How've you been?

We watched two horror-ish movies: Ready or Not, which is revenge tale against the rich and gets into the idea that, ultimately, any family money is deeply evil; and Nina Forever, which was excellent, really about loss and trauma and who ends up carrying those burdens -- but also funny and even sexy.

I vaguely remember seeing "Two Lane Blacktop" on PBS decades ago & finding it pretty boring, but maybe I should see it again. Film Forum (great rep. theater here in NYC) is now having a road movie mini-fest, & I think they're showing it. Funny how no one knows that James Taylor once starred in indie movie.

The internet says Peter Bogdanovich directed Episode 6, Season 5 of the Sopranos. Got to rewatch. Last Picture Show is perfection, like the book, and Bogdanovich is a fine actor too. The guy's lived several lives.

clarke:

Two-Lane Blacktop = view-worthy!!

That's My Bush = uhhhh???
  12:46pm
gf2002:

@DG Definitely worth seeing Two Lane Blacktop again, the cinematography is stellar and it is both James Taylor's and Dennis Wilson's only prominent acting roles, which is a curiosity in itself. The box set includes a book with the original script in full, and much was cut for the final release. And a fascinating backstory is how the studio head at the time literally sank the film, out of various grudges and other issues. The studio literally sabotaged the film for decades after the release. Unreal!

I think Baby may be referring to "Sam Cooke: Legend" which was recently on 13/PBS...except that in true PBS fashion, it's actually a more than 15-year-old doc. that ABKCO made, I guess for home video which they presented like it was new....still worth seeing though.
