My randomizer came up with Christmas Island. But I think that's one of those "too small" countries. So I tried again, and I got "Jersey" (!)
Avatar 🚂 12:11pm
YETI BOB:

Not the new one, the old one ... that's probably too small too

Well if we are going down that road, a Margaux with a Loretta Young l-a-l.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm

Hey Yeti Bob, yes Christmas Island is not likely to work out, Jersey is possibly more hopeful.

Yes, par for the folksong course, although I suppose self-defense could be claimed here.

Folksongs as a whole without murder would lose a certain umph. That does not in any way justify or soften murder itself.

"Murder ballad" is sort of a genre

And not that I would ever criticize June Tabor, but "the Dundee" sounds so weird to me. Isn't Dundee the highest navigable point on the River Tay ("dee"), so a fort ("dun") was built there? (Perth is the last bridgeable point.) Right? Us there another Dundee one can be on?

Will, old-school-ish. Mostly AD&D-based. Adventures and settings in his campaign world. I have used quite a few things from his zines in my game -- I have two of them going right now. I find they port very easily to other settings. Echoes from Fomalhaut: emdt.bigcartel.com...

Handy Haversack:

I'm right by default! The two sweetest words in the English language: de-fault! De-fault! De-fault!

Very exciting! Thanks, David!

Hi, David! I'm late. Not good for my ROUD-deficiency.

Funky16Corners:

Hey David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm
David Dichelle:

I should have also mentioned that much of the music is in Martiniquais creole.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm
David Dichelle:

Welcome StringOFperils!

And hey there, Larry!

"A French parliamentary commission revealed in 2019 that more than 90% of Martinicans have been exposed to chlordecone, a dangerous insecticide, endocrine disruptor and probable carcinogen, authorized between 1972 and 1993 in the banana plantations of the Antilles. "

Guitars in this sound very African!

Handy Haversack:

"A strong tradition of Martiniquan desserts and cakes incorporate pineapple, rum, and a wide range of local ingredients. "

Will any of those be forthcoming, David?
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 2:12pm
Bas NL:

Yes! And Latin beats, but a little different..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm
Franco Twinkie:

You can come back, I'm to busy to be screwing around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm
David Dichelle:

Handy: We may have different local ingredients over here, however. Lots of marjoram.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm
StringOFperils:

I would like a pineapple rolled in sugar and filled with rum please
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 2:19pm
Bas NL:

Ah... Dlo.. de l'eau.. water.
Avatar 2:20pm
Carmichael:

Hold the pineapple.

Handy Haversack:

Staring at "incorporate" instead of "incorporates" is driving me nuts, but I think that there's a special circle of hell for people who become Wikipedia eds. just to correct the grammar.

Apparently, water shortages develop during the Lenten season because all drinking water is from rain catchment?
Avatar 2:22pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'Dlo' sounding very Vodoun to me...

Partner and I flew over Martinique in 2019 in a two prop Embraer aeroplane on our way to The Commonwealth of Dominica from St Lucia. It looked very beautiful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm
coelacanth∅:

the vibe of that song didn't seem like "yes" to me, but then i don't know what they were yessing about
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 2:24pm
Michael 98145:

likey this
Avatar 🚂 2:25pm
YETI BOB:

HH: How about "incorporating"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm
coelacanth∅:

Michael, oui oui oui oui
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 2:27pm
Handy Haversack:

Would make it a sentence fragment, YB -- no verb.

Yeah, Stanley, the few pix on Wikipedia were enough to make me stop looking for more out of self-preservation!
Avatar 🚂 2:27pm
YETI BOB:

I guess that doesn't result in a completely grammatical sentence.
Avatar 🚂 2:28pm
YETI BOB:

but it seems like the cakes are the ones doing the incorporation, not the tradition
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm
David Dichelle:

Coel: I think it was more of a plaintive oué. The song is about a sugar cane workers' strike in 1900 that was put down violently and lethally.
Avatar 🚂 2:30pm
YETI BOB:

"A strong tradition of Martiniquan desserts includes cakes made with pineapple, rum, and a wide range of local ingredients."

I'll have that, YB!

Each Carribean island has its own rum but the locals we met regarded Mount Gay from Barbados as the best.
For us rum punch was the go to drink.
