"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

Tip of the tongue: That Alvarious B tune reminded me of a band I listened to in the (I think) early 90s. Had a song split of into multiple parts where the narrator relates what this one guy does during the last day of the earth. Dang it, I can hear it in my head but can't remember the band name. Agh!!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:40am

ChukAmok: you know what's weird? You were a stowaway in my truck, but I was a stowaway inside that 26 inch bass drum in your practice space. I don't know how I ended up back here in New Jersey, but I WANT MY TRUCK BACK

WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

Tip of the tongue update: The band was King Missile and the multi-part song was "The Boy Who Ate Lasagna and Could Jump Over a Church". (though the song wasn't about the last day of earth). Phew! Feel better now.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:51am
Handy Haversack:

OK, getting set to take off. I have to go get the car out of the garage, stock up on pet food for the trip, and then sit out the alternate-side rules. Thanks, JA. Hopefully will be able to catch the last hour in the car.

Bona fides established.

Later on, JAZZers. Never get out of the fanny pack.

Holy crap, early weeknight King Crimson concert in Queens in September! www.axs.com...

Mike W.:

I saw a lot at the Vision Festival over the years. Patty Waters stands out. Byard, Sunny Murray, Joseph Jarman, Revolutionary Ensemble. I was there when Giuseppi Logan walked in (though I didn’t grasp the significance at the time). Every time, William Parker & Patricia Nicholson, the twin engines of doing and creativity.

Never saw Maurizio there though...

@Mike W - The last time I visited NYC in 2010 I saw Giuseppi Logan doing his own thing in Tompkins Square park. My friends who I was with didn't believe me when I told them Giuseppi's story until they looked it up on the internet machine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am
TomDash:

Mike W - sounds like you caught some great ones! I first caught the 3rd Vision Fest in 1998 @ Angel Orensanz...went several years back then and then just stopped for a long time (too long) - finally getting back into the scene and caught 3 shows this year...one more Saturday. Sunny Murray at the Church in the East Village - amazing. Die Like A Dog Quartet, Peter Kowald, Fred Anderson AND Kidd Jordan together...wow
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am
TomDash:

...I forgot best power trio ever. I think was Vision Fest at the CBs gallery - Peter Brotzmann, Milford Graves and William Parker...Brotzmann was around for many Visions...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am

@TomDash - That's a serious power trio. Each of those dudes is a 1 man power trio in of themselves.

I lived a block from Tompkins and saw/heard Giuseppi just about every day. Over months I bought his CD from him four times.
