On a different subject-I get the Downtown Music Gallery weekly email. This week it has listings for the Vision Music Festival (in NYC, Thursday-Sunday this weekend and next), with other live, free jazz-mostly events. But, if you scroll down through the new record releases, there's a bunch of reasonably priced Black-Saint-Soul Note box sets, out of print music recorded by this Italian label. Making a list of what I want...

Believe it or not, in 1991 the official Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano, put David Crosby's If Only I Could Remember My Name on its list of Top 10 Pop Albums of All Time. No idea why they would make such a list or why they would put David Crosby on it.

As a seriously lapsed Catholic, I can tell you for sure that David Crosby was grasping for the ineffable. Illustrations of majesty rarely get it right, but that doesn't mean people should stop trying.

The answer must be that someone at the Vatican was smoking weed - which would account for many other Vatican pronouncements.
