Glad to be with you and everyone else tonight as always, Bethany. Weird being out of range of the over-the-air signals for the first time in a while, but there are a lot of cool HD Radio stations in Trenton/Princeton and Philadelphia that I've been enjoying in the meantime. Was just listening to WPRB HD1, Princeton's freeform station. Never listened before. Some really great classical and jazz stations down here too, all in HD and mostly or all noncommercial. Nice being back with WFMU now though for sure.

Who knew there was so much tumult to be had in the classical world? Suppose all the wars had an influence and the high rate industrialization or perhaps internal forces...
  8:47pm
byram:

beautiful tumult yes, verily.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
steveo:

the Prokofiev is really hitting me in the solar plexus
Avatar 8:49pm
TDK60:

JT, I think there's something to that. Maybe not with every tumultuous opus though; some yes.
  8:50pm
bunyan:

@jt: Artists of all sorts knew the "old world" was getting ready to come apart by 1890 or so. Find a big book of (European) visual art history covering the last two centuries, treat it like a "flip-book", and watch what happens to the paintings...
Avatar 8:51pm
jt:

I am liking these answers....
Avatar 8:52pm
TDK60:

Like said above, some tumult is joyous, like a pillow fight or such.
Avatar 8:56pm
TDK60:

..or, a good rowdy partee which is more fun and interesting than most..
  8:57pm
bunyan:

Something else making for tumult: the human population doubled from 1830 to 1930, then doubled again by 1975 (it's slowing down a little since then)...
