Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from March 26, 2021 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

It is sounding good UM. I'd say, maybe a bit "clearer" forgive my lack of audio-phile and audio engineering jargon. But, I got fancy headphones and an amp and it sounds nice. Though, you always sound good. I have noticed since the transition to pandemic mode the alt stream DJs tend to have better audio quality than the at home main streamers. Also volume has been low on the mainstream on some shows.

Remembering when Joni's album, "The Hissing of Summer Lawns," was released, Rolling Stone magazine called it the "worst album of the year." A lot they know about music! Elvis does a good job on "Edith" here. But Tina Turner also covers it on Herbie Hancock's Grammy-winning Album of the Year, "The Joni Letters." Excellent, as always.

Elvis and Joni both will/did go out of there way to follow their own muse, even though the results sometimes baffled and angered their fans. But hey, if you need to hear Watching The Detectives or For The Roses for that particular spine tingling thrill, they are eternally trapped on vinyl, have at it.

I saw Joni at the Anaheim Convention Center in 1974 when she was touring Court and Spark, and Elvis in 1978 at Hollywood High. In both cases, seat were torn out, curtains started on fire, and the audience had multiple orgasms. Both shows caught for posterity if anyone need proof. Is any artist capable of operating at such a high level for eternity? Me thinks not.
