It's about Diversion
- but something about Elijah McClain :

Ferlinghetti made it to 101 !
Massive impact, adventure - seemed a pretty positive & satisfied fella...

Current Reed Count (CRC): assuming the Berkeley instrumentation is for two oboes (2xdouble reed), two clarinets (2xsingle reed) and two bassoons (2xdouble reed) we'll be at CRC 17 by the end of this set.

Reeding is fundmental.

The Elijah McClain story just keeps getting more cruel and tragic the more we find out about it

Great to be listening. In high school, there was an oboist with the last name Reed, so that would throw the count off.

Bethany Ryker:

I feel deep, deep heartache about Elijah McClain. The Violin Vigils show we did on A440 over the summer helped me process, given the power of music, but not nearly enough.
Avatar 8:32pm
slugluv1313:

@headcleaner -- yes, agreed -- i keep seeing him playing his violin for cats and kittens in a shelter
Avatar 8:32pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Elijah McClain was one of us, as I see it myself: A Music Nerd - animal lover... On the autism spectrum... Walking w/ headphones on as I do... Utterly harmless - & utterly w/out Justice.

Hello.

Dean:

I attended a faculty job talk today largely springing from McClain. Was invigorating, if not encouraging. My prescription is more reading. Nobody interested in these issues should ignore Edmund Morgan's American Slavery, American Freedom, for example.

@Bethany -- so true, as much as we try to process and heal, it is still always ongoing

So, tonight we have a Coney Island of the Ear, for Mr. Frelinghetti.

Bethany, I loved hearing your passion during that music break! You really bring it home. Thanks!
Avatar 8:55pm
Bethany Ryker:

Thanks so much - I don't think I really got to what I was trying to say (she's scratching her head) I much prefer conversation to monologue. Funny thing: I never really know when to end...so I'm content to start a conversation and would never claim to have the last word.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm
Mr. Pumpy:

I dig that sentiment, but please know it was quite informative and thoroughly enjoyable. I would have liked to ask questions, of course, but it is the next best thing to conversation. In the moment, anyway. Thanks for sharing your passion and knowledge.
