Censorship, plus current happenings in the world of world music.
Journalist
and onetime WFMU dj Gerald Seligman founded EMI's Hemispheres world music label and has worked on the Mondo Melodia series and many other projects as a producer and anthologist.
And he's a founding board member of Freemuse, an independent international
organization advocating freedom of expression for musicians and composers
worldwide.
Gerald was in New York to speak at the APAP Conference,
the annual meeting of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) Jan.
10-13 at the Hilton New York & Towers (1335 6th Ave).
In addition to exploring notable cases
of music censorship around the world, we talk about Gerald's experience as a world music producer and also about broader issues in world music kicking around at forums like APAP and the European World Music conference WOMEX.
