This is enjoyable. I especially like the sound of the pole tips dragging along the snow.

I was going to say, "dog on the slopes?"

Going to the snow is what my son likes to do with his partner and their dog.

hey jonah, glad to have you! :)

jonah:

hey Jesse! are these your recordings of the world? they're totally transporting me out of my room
Avatar 7:44pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Almost 100% not my recordings, though I do play a few here and there. I'm mostly looking for how others hear the world..

I suppose we're all neighbors in sound

i am missing my near annual trips to Japan.

I haven't been to Nippon in 32 years (still talk to my old neighbors).

Hi Jesse. Long time no see.
Avatar 7:56pm

Hi TDK60, good to see you here!
Avatar 7:56pm

If this is Karelia, then the languages heard might be a dialect of Finnish or Russian....
Avatar 7:57pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

I think it's southern India, the release says recorded in various areas of Fort Kochi and Munnar, January 2020

Ike:

Hi! Uh oh, maybe I need to put a notice for my neighbors politely reminding them that the hallway is not their apartment and to please wear their "mascarillas". @NGH, how do you say "UK Variant" in Spanish? "La variante británica"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm
chresti:

It's going to be fall on Thursday, here. \\ //
Avatar 8:11pm
TDK60:

Hi NGH. I recalled something the other day from April '20. I was so proud of my memory gland. || \\ //.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm
chresti:

Haha memory gland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm
chresti:

Be careful to not say "mascara", Ike.
Avatar 8:20pm
northguineahills:

depends on the context. Like the US, usually la variante angleterre would also work.... (yes, most people are not geographical pedantics)
Avatar 8:21pm
TDK60:

Chresti, don't use mascara for espa~nol word mask? What is it?
Avatar 8:21pm
northguineahills:

@chresti: *snert*
Avatar 8:22pm
northguineahills:

mascarilla (actually didn't know that word until last april)
Avatar 8:23pm
TDK60:

mascarilla ok, Northg.h.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
Ike:

Thanks @Chresti, I almost made that mistake in the first draft, but then I remembered I'd seen "mascarilla" on the neighborhood bodega signs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
chresti:

Cosmetic coating for the lashes, TDK60.
Avatar 8:26pm
northguineahills:

love the pipe organ....

I'd die for my old corner bodega. Friendly service, got discounts all the time. Yemeni music, two minutes from my front door. Didn't know how good I had it....
Avatar 8:28pm
TDK60:

chresti- Of course, /mascara/ for sexy people, Bowie, etc! ! || I was listening to some Bach organ recently, and a sibling stopped by, asked me to take off the funeral music. . .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
chresti:

I almost said cosmic coating for lashes.

Me too, pipe organ.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
Ike:

My bodegas are Yemeni too. A couple of those guys opened a nice coffee shop, Yafa Cafe, with really good Yemeni breakfast and lunch dishes a couple of years ago. I hope it survives.
Avatar 8:35pm
northguineahills:

starts to pen a weird al knock-off Ricky Martin's hit, Marcarena, put calls it mascarilla.
Avatar 8:35pm
TDK60:

I think I have 4 Yemeni/Arab bodegas within minutes.
Avatar 8:36pm
northguineahills:

(not sure how that 'put' got there....)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm
chresti:

You but it there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm
Ike:

The little neighborhood hardware store is also Yemeni (and there's a Korean-run one too) and I don't mind paying a bit of a mark-up so that I never have to set foot in a bloody Home Depot or Lowe's ever again. Plus they have a friendly calico cat named Linda.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm
Aitch:

In late, howdy neighbours
Avatar 9:07pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey Aitch!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm
Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Ike I'm so envious. I live in the suburbs, land of big box stores, but at least the next town over has a venerable Ace Hardware that's packed with merchandise and employs knowledgeable geezers. No cat though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm
Scott67:

G'day Aitch! 😎
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm
Ike:

@SCLizzie, the downside of course is that the hardware store has *tiny* aisles and so I'm very nervous about going in there during Covid. Social distancing is friggin' impossible in there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm
Kat in Chicago:

Hi Jesse and chat neighbors!
Avatar 9:20pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey Kat!
Hi Lizzie!
Hey Ike!
Avatar 9:21pm
northguineahills:

Kat!

Lathe, new to me and digdug (just sold most of my lathe-cut records...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm
Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Naive question - is the music in this set EMD? Electronic music? Something else? I am loving it and want to know what to search for. Thanks.
Avatar 9:30pm
northguineahills:

tough question, somewhere b/tn minimal acid house and edm. (I'm not into genres, as I just genred the last few tracks, ok, this track is contemporary house.).
Avatar 9:31pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey Lizzie, not naive at all, genre is a weird thing. In a general sense I think this would be techno. Technically it is electronic music made for dancing but EDM means something really specific at this point
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm
Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Thanks. I don't know anybody who's into this stuff so I'm on my own. I used to listen to Daniel Blumin's show and clicked a lot of stars there.
Avatar 9:34pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

I miss Daniel's show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm
Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Me too!
Avatar 9:41pm
northguineahills:

ahhh, the old Blumin onion (as I affectionately called him).
Avatar 9:41pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

I think it also depends on where you're looking how useful the genre tags are, NGH is right to go more granular, there's a ton of stuff made to sell under any given genre tag
Avatar 9:42pm
northguineahills:

Now we're in minimal techno territory, from the Detroit/Berlin lineage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm
chresti:

I miss Blumin too, maybe back in June?
Avatar 9:50pm
northguineahills:

Thanks, Jesse!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm
Kat in Chicago:

I used to get ready to go out and hear techno whilst listening to Mr. Blumin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm
chresti:

Thanks Jesse! Glad you're back in the groove!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm
Kat in Chicago:

Welcome back, Jesse. I'll catch up on what I missed in the archive.
