Favoriting Acid Jazz Hands with Bronwyn Bishop: Playlist from January 8, 2021 Favoriting

Bronwyn Bishop's avatar View Bronwyn Bishop's profile Favoriting

Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

PG Wodehouse co-wrote the lyrics to Showboat?!? OMG.
Also, I don’t think I’ve given enough credit to Jerome Kern.

kern is an underrated KERNel of musical theatre
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:49pm

Bolton & Wodehouse wrote a series of musical with Kern. Find the excellent and somewhat true book "Bring On The Girls" that they wrote about that experience.

Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 9:01pm

Well that was fun! a few clicky stars in there! Thanks Bronwyn!
Avatar 🎭 9:12am
Listener Gregory:

A little late scholarship. Wikipedia reports that P.G. Wodehouse wrote the original lyrics for the Show Boat song "Bill," which Oscar Hammerstein revised for Show Boat. However, Wodehouse doesn't seem to have contributed to the other songs in the musical (re: "Can't Help Lovin' That Man").
