Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

So in my early twenties, I began to develop an irrational fear of escalators. This struck me as silly, so I decided to combat it with rationality and information. I discovered that escalators are in fact damn death traps, and one that I took at least once a week at the time was one of the most dangerous in the United States.. The child in this gif is in serious danger and it's causing me to hyperventilate. Good afternoon, everyone!

  Fri. 7/26/19 12:27pm Dean:

That's right. Left class Friday night, stood at the corner of Slauson Ave. and Norwalk Blvd., stuck out my thumb, arrived in the Bay Area before midnight.

"Prior to RingCentral Coliseum, the Coliseum had multiple naming-rights-influenced identities in the past, including Network Associates Coliseum, McAfee Coliseum, Overstock.com Coliseum, and O.Co Coliseum. The most recent of those monikers was removed in 2016, the year O.co (formerly Overstock.com) walked away from a $1.45-million annual naming-rights deal when the Raiders announced a move from Oakland."

Best introduction to the Dead, in my book, is Workingman's Dead. Some say American Beauty.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/26/19 12:34pm annie:

exactly dean... i turned the radio off after those..
  Fri. 7/26/19 12:35pm dan:

@Dean
The best song to introduce someone to the Grateful Dead is “Uncle John’s Band”, the album’s opener
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/26/19 12:35pm Dominick:

Those 2 of course, but Live Dead was equally eye opening.
Avatar Fri. 7/26/19 12:36pm Franco Twinkie:

I agree Dean. It was easy to work backwards in 1970. Kind of like working on a Ford Fairlane - easy and logical.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/26/19 12:36pm Dominick:

or is that ear opening?
  Fri. 7/26/19 12:38pm dan:

This Lawrence Welk cocktail music later became Grand Funk Railroad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/26/19 12:39pm Asheville Jon:

i feel like i should have had a few long island iced teas while listening to this set
  Fri. 7/26/19 12:39pm Dean:

See, the Dead aren't that divisive a band. Their more pop-heavy material is the gateway drug to the more untethered stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/26/19 12:39pm Lee B:

I share your fondness for the occasional GD. I saw a ton of shows btw 1978 and 82/83. Not their best years, but good times were had!
Avatar Fri. 7/26/19 12:41pm geezerette:

Heavy, maaaaaaaaaaaaan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/26/19 12:41pm doctorjazz:

No arguments on American Beauty or Workingman's Dead, except that they don't sound like most live Grateful Dead. (I know many who love those albums, but hate all the rest). Live Dead is good, but I'd go with Europe 72 for starters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/26/19 12:41pm Uncle Michael:

Lee! 1978 is underrated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/26/19 12:41pm annie:

'74(?) or so, i was asked by my housemate to get tickets to a dead show in Eugene., where i lived at that time. i did so, and observed the many fanatics.. sorry, fans; but i just didn't get it.
  Fri. 7/26/19 12:43pm Dean:

I need to listen again to Phyllis Hyman. Was selling records when hers first arrived. Didn't give them the attention they deserved.
Avatar Fri. 7/26/19 12:44pm geezerette:

Annie, I think "acid" was required, because I never "did" that and I agree with you.

The 50-year AOXOMOXOA CD release includes both mastered versions of the record. I think I prefer the original.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/26/19 12:53pm Uncle Michael:
