Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

I'll be finding out. I ordered that and live at the Boston tea party this morning. Too much talent in that lineup of the Mac to not delve deeply into in my middle age. Thanks for the sounds today man!. Doug's show was a great one today also!. :-)
  Fri. 11/16/18 12:31pm Marie:

Happy trails, Roy....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 12:32pm Rich in Washington:

Hearing about Roy Clark's passing yesterday prompted a red wine fueled Hee Haw viewing fest last night. For those of us who grew up in a one-TV house, our dads sort of ruled television viewing on Saturday nights, so we were sort of 'forced' (I mean, the TV was on. What else were we gonna do?) to watch Hee Haw every week.
I hated it then, but now it's very sentimental.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 12:33pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

Fare thee well, Roy Clark!
Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 12:33pm Listener Robert:

So, serious question, UM: if the domain's yours, why is the "..., My Home Town" material not on the index page rather than a subdirectory page? Is it just for convenience if you someday link more pages, or already have more pages off the main one?
Avatar Fri. 11/16/18 12:34pm still b/p:

Watched clip yesterday of Roy on Jimmy Dean show, and he's doing shy-funny shtick that ends up feeling here and there like shades of Andy Griffith, Jonathan Winters and Tommy Smothers. The playing, of course, is fantastic!

I thought tahini goes in hummus
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 1:31pm Roberto:

Holy cow! What just happened??
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 1:31pm Uncle Michael:

Brian, good tahini should provide all the sesame oil needed. I'm with you on taramasalata. But if you put great examples of both in front of me, along with great baba ghanouj...I'd wipe out the baba ghanouj.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 1:32pm Uncle Michael:

Oscar!
  Fri. 11/16/18 1:32pm Dean:

I like dry scents of hummus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 1:33pm Lane Gray:

Just a bit of sesame oil. I just use abundant tahini Whizz the tahini a full minute before adding the pulses by whichever name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 1:35pm Lane Gray:

Many Arabs make something like hummus but with foule/Fava beans instead. It's also yummy.
Did you also see the Time Jumpers?

Hummus! My sweetie just brought back 2 lbs of special garbanzo beans from Israel. Hummus party tonight!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 1:38pm βrian:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 1:39pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

Gotta say, though, baba ghanouj is my favorite, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 1:40pm Lane Gray:

Our "traditional" Thanksgiving dinner includes baba ghanouj, but not this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 1:42pm Lane Gray:

It also improves the texture of the beans

Avatar Fri. 11/16/18 1:44pm Franco Twinkie:

If you get to Zankou Chicken early enough, The hummus is perfectly fluffy. Later in the day, not so much. Jericho is a good off the shelf brand.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 1:45pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

Zankou Chicken makes me think of Merrill Schindler. Is he still doing his SoCal radio show?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 1:47pm βrian:

I don't find a creamy consistency to be all that desirable, though it doesn't hurt. But I definitely don't want my hummus fluffy.

"wipe-able" is the selling term for hummus in Israel. For real.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 1:50pm Lane Gray:

I see creaminess on the zero end of the graininess continuum.
Don't want fluffy, can't abide grainy. Which is why I whizz the bejeebers out of the tahini before I add the beans
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 1:51pm βrian:

@UM: Exactly. A good hummus can stand on it's own.

Dean, as you know, Traders Joe's has been doing hummis wrong for years. However, the latest iteration with the light blue band is passable. You shop at the one in El Cerrito, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 2:04pm βrian:

Do you maintain a starter for that pita? I'd like to try it.
Avatar Fri. 11/16/18 2:05pm geezerette:

Hey, Granny! Men who bake, it's a wonderful thing. :)

@LG, whoa, cruise control as AI ...
  Fri. 11/16/18 2:06pm Dean:

Usually El Cerrito, yes, but sometimes the newer one on University with the bumper car parking lot. Rarely, but sometimes, Pinole or Emeryville, and many others nationwide. Known quantity.

I remember the name Me & Me, geezerette, but never got there.

Avatar Fri. 11/16/18 2:08pm geezerette:

Brian, my husband maintains a starter he made from organic grapes about 15 years ago. We use it for waffles, pancakes, pita and mainly sourdough country loaves. It's incredible.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 2:11pm Lane Gray:

Yes, and if it's gas, it slows down when you close the throttle. Diesels lack a throttle, so we need the Jake brake

Ha! Oki Dog! Never been there, either, despite the Youth Gone Mad anthem.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 2:14pm Michael 98145:

@FT, they really must have a demonic designer for those parking lots.

Heh, speaking of Fairfax...
Avatar Fri. 11/16/18 2:15pm still b/p:

  Fri. 11/16/18 2:15pm Dean:

The El Cerrito Plaza lot isn't bad in terms of design. The problem is I think BART commuters poach spots there all day long. Mid-weekday it's full, but nobody's in the store.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 11/16/18 2:16pm Michael 98145:

Avatar Fri. 11/16/18 2:16pm Franco Twinkie:

Some buddies and I have been trading Tommy's memories, now that Brooklyn Bagel Factory has reopened. For instance, after a Masque (or whatever) show early one morning we stopped at Tommy's. One of our crew ordered a cheeseburger, hold the chili. Order taker yells, "One sissy burger!" Another time one asks jokingly for a free burger. "Bend over. I got your free burger."

Hahaha...
  Fri. 11/16/18 2:24pm Dean:

Avatar Fri. 11/16/18 2:26pm Franco Twinkie:

Tommys! After the Elvis Costello show at Hollywood High in 1978, half the audience went to Tommy's. Just to be an irritating prick, I drove in the exit. I made the security guard totally flip out, much to to delight of the unruly mob.

Heh, talk about a parking lot!
  Fri. 11/16/18 2:28pm Dean:
