Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Me and my family had tickets for the 2002 Who tour. We were shocked when John Entwistle died on the eve of the tour. I half expected it to be cancelled, but they carried on with Pino Palladino who preserved Entwistle's great bass playing on the songs.

The Latino selection reminds me of "Hommy", a salsa opera inspired by Tommy. It was supposed to be given its first mainland U.S. performance ever in Lincoln Center in July 2014, and got about halfway through before a thunderstorm with torrential rain shut the whole thing down. Michael, if I remember right, they had to shut the power down once the lighting started. The skies were already pretty ugly when the audience started assembling, and when the show began, they warned people that it might come to that. No one left until they had to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 1:47pm Parq:

NGH, I can't explain, but I do know that they said they would shut the show down if the lightning started, and they did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 1:48pm Parq:

Speaking of Lincoln Center, I saw Death there too. Most of the audience were regulars for the summer series and didn't seem to know what to make of middle aged black guys playing hard rock. Then some skinny guy got up in front of the stage to dance. People started joining him, and then at last, it was a rock and roll show.

Parq, I'm of the female persuasion but have to agree she was very decorative.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 2:10pm Sem:

Hey, geezerette. All good on the left coast?
Avatar Fri. 7/6/18 2:10pm geezerette:

Othewise just dandy, tanning successfully using SPF ~750.
Avatar Fri. 7/6/18 2:16pm geezerette:

Always love the Country Western sets. (Yee- HAW!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/6/18 2:17pm Brian in UK:

Thanks Uncle for the marathon, off to the kitchen.
Good weekend, everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/6/18 2:17pm Gaylord Fields:

Now, there’s a funny thing: I went out for a day’s adventure after starting off listening to HDT, and the show is still there for me when I return!
Avatar Fri. 7/6/18 2:17pm geezerette:

Sem,HA! :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 2:18pm Uncle Michael:

I'm an algorithm, Gaylord. I never shut down.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 2:19pm Lane Gray:

Not as Jimmy C. Newman?
(and steel giant Ralph Mooney wrote Crazy Arms for those who care)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 2:19pm Mike Sin:

I've been tuned in since about the Freddie Hubbard track -- this six-hour show (of fortitude!) was a nice surprise!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/6/18 2:20pm Gaylord Fields:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/6/18 2:25pm Lewis:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 2:25pm Jeff Moore:

This 500 is sure perky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/6/18 2:25pm Lewis:

...take me to the bridge!
  Fri. 7/6/18 2:25pm dan:

UM, you should play The Seekers’ version of 500 Miles. Judith Durham sings so angelic on that track.
Avatar Fri. 7/6/18 2:25pm ndbob:

hi UM and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 2:26pm Parq:

Gee, what a great pop version of 500.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 2:26pm Webhamster Henry:

this is a nice 500 miles - it's more pop-rocky and less folkie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 2:26pm Lane Gray:

What a version of 500 Miles
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 2:26pm Parq:

And so he hid inside a dog ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 2:28pm doctorjazz:

Hey, Geezerette, we had our 100+ heat earlier this week, cooler this weekend in Jersey. Heading for New Hampshire for the weekend, daughter's in a show there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 2:28pm Lane Gray:

Traditional. Contemporary versions have had input from Bobby Bare
Avatar Fri. 7/6/18 2:30pm geezerette:

Doc, it's the same heatwave, it's been traveling west.
What show is she in? Exciting!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 2:31pm Lane Gray:

Avatar Fri. 7/6/18 2:33pm still b/p:

500 miles is what I just drove! ....kinda. All of them sssssticky. Good to listen normally....if still slightly stickily. For a while the phone was nested in my bike helmet on my lap at the wheel.
Avatar Fri. 7/6/18 2:34pm ndbob:

right Lane - she recorded a nice version
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 2:34pm Lane Gray:

Tom Gray got the jacket back that night Mrs. John Duffey blocked his bus in and wouldn't let him leave until it was returned
  Fri. 7/6/18 2:35pm rw:

Howdy kids!

still b/p, how does your phone sound from inside of a bike helmet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 2:37pm Lane Gray:

I admit to being partial but I don't think any version has been better than that of John Duffey
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 2:37pm Uncle Michael:

Bob! RW!
  Fri. 7/6/18 2:37pm rw:

UM, you're almost there! I missed four and a half of them but I'm here for the remainder.
  Fri. 7/6/18 2:39pm rw:

A little bummed I missed most of Tommy but it seems like something worth returning to later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 2:41pm doctorjazz:

She's in The Producers. I'm sure I'll think it's better than Broadway!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 2:42pm Uncle Michael:

This is the punch-drunk last set.
Avatar Fri. 7/6/18 2:42pm geezerette:

Wow! What role?

Had the Mostel/Wilder film soundtrack album, for ever and ever. Still laughed even knowing the punchlines. "Roger! We're not alone!"

Carman Ghia. Genius.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/6/18 2:50pm doctorjazz:

Hey, Geez, she's in the chorus, with some small features (it's a tough biz...)
