Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Buddy of mine hosted Ms. Merman's appearance at his college in the South c.1980. Backstage a stagehand announced, "Five minutes, Ms. Merman!" Not one to take orders she replied, "Five minutes my ass!"

Nice Wallace Stevens allusion in Case's album title.

@ Frenchee--funny! Over the years I have had that as an earworm multiple times, for days. There is something about that song and melody.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 12:38pm coelacanth∅:

Saw Steve Miller in the early 90s,a show attended and enjoyed by quite a wide age range. And it was either in his own words at the concert or somewhere I read at the time, or both: in spite of all the love and enthusiasm he could no longer get a record deal.

I like that Life's Been Good track (missed it, have to get some work done between sets).
  Fri. 3/24/17 1:41pm Dean:

[Just kidding.]
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 1:41pm Uncle Michael:

jmd! thank you!

Mike! melinda!
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:42pm jmd:

I think he's 1/7 Eagle. Glen and Don are 2/7s Eagle.
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:42pm βrian:

Nice African, though!
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:42pm Alex In Illinois:

@frenshee: I was getting the African music switcharoo too. Whoa, there just went, another one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 1:42pm Uncle Michael:

stream still making trouble?
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:42pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Nuttin' a little Bobbie Gentry in the Gut can't solve!
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:42pm Doug Schulkind:

Yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 1:43pm Uncle Michael:

I'll try stopping and starting the stream.
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:43pm Lane Gray:

Michael, did you see that thing of Barbara Mandrell on the Johnny Cash TV show? Tore up Steel Guitar Rag, with some cool twin parts with the not-shown guitar picker
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:44pm βrian:

Mmm, Kora!
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:44pm Roberto:

Oy again with the stream mehugas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 1:44pm Uncle Michael:

Yep.
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:45pm Roberto:

We're jammin' now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 1:45pm Uncle Michael:

If it does it again, I'll go silent while I restart my modem.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 1:46pm Brian in UK:

Johnny Cash is Indian.
The Eagles aint.
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:46pm Roberto:

ARgh
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:46pm Doug Schulkind:

Still interrupting big time.
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:47pm βrian:

You might want to blast your acoustic coupler with some compressed air while you're at it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 1:47pm Brian in UK:

@Lane Did you just write Barbara Mandrell, been a long time since I sold an LP of hers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 1:47pm Uncle Michael:

restarting modem
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/24/17 1:48pm doctorjazz:

Still same issue, but I'm beating a dead horse (get my Dead references in whenever I can, hahaha)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 1:49pm Brian in UK:

Thought I was imaginging the Carpenters.
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:49pm jmd:

should we be hearing a cover of Superstar? If so, then all's well?
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:49pm jmd:

spoke too soon
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/24/17 1:49pm melinda:

The version of Superstar on the stream was pretty cool, I have to say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 1:49pm Uncle Michael:

nope
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:50pm Doug Schulkind:

The stream was just then playing Ros Sereysothea's version of "Superstar" by the Carpenters. Music from Cambodia!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 1:50pm coelacanth∅:

i don't know why it came up, Johnny Cash didn't have any native blood in him, he was to eventually learn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/24/17 1:50pm doctorjazz:

Sure didn't sound like Tom Verlaine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 1:50pm Parq:

I'm very confused. Well, yes, but I mean about the stream.
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:50pm Webhamster Henry:

Kind of bouncy on the stream - hit a patch of internet whitewater?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/24/17 1:50pm melinda:

I hear Verlaine now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 1:52pm coelacanth∅:

i like the droney fiddle.
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:54pm JP from KC:

Holy fuck. That Collectors track was incredible. Never heard that, before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 1:55pm Uncle Michael:

we good now?
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:56pm JP from KC:

I haven't had issues since I tuned back in during Status Quo. By the way, you weren't kidding at the start of the show. I bet Annie's half done already, and you're certainly helping me bust ass through my lunch hour.
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:56pm Webhamster Henry:

Sounds OK ! I'm ready for Pee Wee Herman to turn up at the Alamo!
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 1:56pm Lane Gray:

Brian, I did write Barbara. On my FB feed yesterday was a video of her tearing up the C6th neck
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:02pm Parq:

While you're at it, check out the less ambitious but still worthy tribute by Julea on last night's "Diesel Smoke and Dangerous Curves".
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:04pm coelacanth∅:

yes, this is one i played for my own tribute at the pub, on the jukebox, on the night of Chuck's passing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:04pm Uncle Michael:

best fake early elvis ever?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:06pm coelacanth∅:

i would've believed it if you said it was Elvis. (though Elvis' voice is a little "richer", in general)
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 2:06pm still b/p:

Chuck said it was all for the money, needed to make a living with rock and roll, and his personal preference was big band swing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:09pm coelacanth∅:

yup. that's a man that i probably would not have liked personally; but i'm forever in awe of his musical sense, and his brilliant marketting skills.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:12pm Parq:

Yet another example of how you have to separate the worth of the person from the worth of his or her work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:14pm coelacanth∅:

-and sometimes it's the other way 'round...when knowing what a good person someone is makes me wish i liked his/her music more!
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 2:18pm Roberto:

This is definitely my favorite track off of YA.
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 2:20pm still b/p:

Listened to Bowie doing God Only Knows the other day...and ooh, i'm quite a Bowie fan for a lot of things, but that didn't work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:21pm Parq:

Coel, dig that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:22pm Parq:

I got legwork to do and may not be back until after three, so UM, thanks now for another great show.
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 2:25pm Lane Gray:

Billy Walker did it better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:25pm Uncle Michael:

Thank you, Parq!
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 2:26pm Lane Gray:

Ouch! That fake stereo "swimming" hurts on headphones
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:28pm Uncle Michael:

I don't hear fake stereo on that. Most instruments were panned pretty hard right or left, in fact.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/24/17 2:29pm doctorjazz:

Man, what a voice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/24/17 2:29pm doctorjazz:

(some glass cracked in my office with the high note)
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 2:31pm Webhamster Henry:

Mash up with Bang Bang!
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 2:31pm still b/p:

Whittaker for, as they say, the bold win!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:37pm Uncle Michael:

Roger killed the comments!
  Fri. 3/24/17 2:39pm Dean:

I'm afraid Terry Jacks won't revive them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:39pm David D:

Good day-vening, Uncle Michael, Roger, everyone...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:40pm Sue P.:

Wow...that Terry Jacks song is creepy as hell. Tooooo much double entendre!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:41pm coelacanth∅:

ha that sad sad song cracks me up! i always thought of it if i saw a "top 10 worst songs of all time" list.
  Fri. 3/24/17 2:41pm Dean:

"That entendre doesn't even rise..." ISWYDT.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:41pm David D:

Understood as entendred.
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 2:42pm Jeff Golick:

"Slip It In" is subtle by comparison.
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 2:42pm Rich in Washington:

what did the guy from Seasons In the Sun die from, anyway? I've always wondered.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:42pm coelacanth∅:

not TOO subtle!
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 2:43pm Lane Gray:

Seasons in the Sun has a pretty melody. I played its melody at half speed for the Hank Jr. song "Blues Man"
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 2:43pm Rich in Washington:

I just became a grandfather. I think Roger Whittaker is going to be my fashion plate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:44pm coelacanth∅:

Terry Jacks is alive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:45pm Scraps:

Waaaaaay back there: Ethel Merman is awesome.

Now lying down again. Cheers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/24/17 2:45pm melinda:

Nice Winds version.
  Fri. 3/24/17 2:45pm Dean:

Why does this Brothers Four sound like Harry Shearer singing all the parts?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:46pm Uncle Michael:

Rich! Congrats!
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 2:46pm Jeff Golick:

@Rich: congratulations. It is surprising hard to find a photograph that shows Roger Whittaker's leg: www.google.com...

He has legs, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:47pm coelacanth∅:

yes Rich - what they said!
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 2:47pm Jeff Golick:

* surprisingly // *legs // ugh
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 2:47pm Lane Gray:

Roger Whitaker did a cool version of "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" with Curly Chalker on the double barreled egg slicer.
Wind is crazy in Illinois too
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 2:51pm Rich in Washington:

That's fine. I am selling my legs to buy my grandson a ball and bat. Doh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:52pm Uncle Michael:

Get the Bill Veeck model!
  Fri. 3/24/17 2:56pm Marie:

I lurve this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/24/17 2:57pm coelacanth∅:

so good...one of my top 3 NY albums.
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 2:58pm Listening Out There:

Just got here...
Avatar Fri. 3/24/17 2:58pm still b/p:

Supah show, thanks!

Uncle Michael didn't want to perform in Hoof and Mouth -- wouldn't respond to urgent attempts to contact. Here's when he was persuaded to...take the call.
