Hey Mark and Carmichael - it's too tame and managed to be a creek, I think.

Phillippe Bastille:

Naming for bodies of flowing water is kinda weird in some ways, makes perfect sense in others. Here's how it was explained to me: streams flow into creeks, creeks flow into rivers, rivers flow into bays, bays flow into oceans. My cousin and I both have shacks on the water; his is on a creek that is a larger body of water than the river ours is on. Our river empties into the bay no more than a quarter mile from where the river my cousin's creek feeds into enters the bay. If our river emptied out a quarter mile north of where it does, it would be a creek, not a river. Fishing would be great in either one.

Karen James was unknown to me, but looking at the Folkways .pdf of this album, I see she sings songs collected by Dr. Helen Creighton, who is justly revered in Canadian folk music circles for going out and collecting and recording songs from Nova Scotia's tiniest villages, mostly along the Atlantic shore. This would be the 20s,30s,40s and later.
Thanks for this particular rabbithole, David.
