Supposedly a tape of Linda McCartney's isolated microphone from the soundboard of a Wings concert. "Linda" the backup singer howls like a banshee through a version Hey Jude, all the way to the most discordant "na na na's" you've ever heard. However, accusations have been raised concerning the veracity of the tape's origin. March 2006
From the Incorrect Music 2001 marathon premium. The hidden track from the original CD version of this sampler, and for good reason. November 2005
The same song played against itself, but a fraction of a second later. February 2007
The Drifting Cowboys kept open for business even after the death of their boss, Hank Williams. Here they are recording with George McCormick. June 2009
Forces of Evil won the game by default after Average Christian tested positive for performance-enhancing substances in post-game screening. April 2005

The culture of death, for the culture-of-life set. From the introduction to an LP-length allegory that's sure to terrify Christians under the age of eight. If you're reading this website, you've already been bumped from this flight, so don't concern yourself. April 2005
If only real airlines had in-flight entertainment as good as this. April 2005
Featuring the actual, unaltered voice of The Almighty. April 2005

One of the most genius of the prank call CD's of all time, period. The premise is simple: horny guys meet "Kathy" on the internet, and are invited to call her up, but wind up unknowingly speaking to a sampler hooked up to the phone triggering some appropriate and not-so-appropriate responses to the dudes in question ranging from "you have a sexy voice" to "I'm a burn victim". Even as some guys figure out that they aren't speaking to a real live breathing gal (which often becomes evident when the sampler goes crazy "malfunctioning"), it doesn't seem to matter to them. Thanks to Derek of Hamburger for letting us put up this super XXX-rated MP3. June 2005

All The Beatles UK LP releases compressed at 800% into a one-hour MP3. Here's the album list (all the UK LPs): "Please Please Me," "With the Beatles," "A Hard Day's Night," "Beatles for Sale," "Help!," "Rubber Soul," "Revolver," "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," "The Beatles (White Album)," "Yellow Submarine," "Abbey Road," and "Let It Be." (You'll notice that "Magical Mystery Tour" is missing as Mr. McLaughlin claims it was released in the UK as two EPs.) October 2007
Official Campaign Song of the Rent is Too Damn High Party, who ran Jimmy McMillan as Candidate for Mayor in the NYC 2005 race. October 2005
Reel-to-reel tapes – the home-recorded type, most of them from 40 or more years ago – often offer unique recordings: a family at home, vintage television or AM radio recordings, rare live performances. Here are the contents of a found five-inch "Soundcraft"-brand reel. An accordionist plays an tune, and someone sings what sounds like a patriotic song about China. The entertainer is then introduced as Father Jeremiah McNamara, accordionist. A few performances later, we hear him also introduced as Father Jeremiah McNamara, Passionist (a Christian sect known for their missionary work around the world, particularly in China). After ten performances, Father McNamara is heard accompaning Father Arthur McNally, who sings "Bicycle Built For Two." March 2008

Collage by Stephen McQuillen (aka "The Piss"): a video called The Bottom Line, with a soundtrack by Negativland. Before you view it, be warned: it contains many disturbing images of torture from Abu Ghraib prison, including images and videos aired on Australian television and barely mentioned in the US press - not for the squeamish. (16 MB quicktime) February 2006
1980's paid-time Southern gospel radio show from WFMU's Aircheck series. November 2006
Phone message received in 1999. I've never owned a dog, it was the wrong number each time. It hurt to call her back and tell her so.

Possibly the only time you'll ever hear a Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds song ("Deanna") altered to cast a spotlight on an overweight lasagna-eating feline. February 2008

A cold war example of The Letter Song, from the incredible Atomic Platters collection. This track was apparently inspired by the earlier "Letter to Ivan" by Jimmy Dean, and an answer song Dear Jimmie by Ivan Kavanovich. (Send 'em if you got 'em! - ken at wfmu dot org). This track starts off with the voice of an actual Russian defector - Viktor Jaanimets - who fled Khrushchev's ocean liner for American asylum and then parlayed his notoriety into this single. November 2006
Meireles and His Orchestra from the album "Brazilian Beat, Vol. 2" (London, 1967). May 2009
“Who sings along, hits from today” -- This is an attempt to enable kids to sing along the pop-hits of their time. More than half of the songs are translated/adapted Chinn and Chapman works. The Zonnepitten were founded by Gonnie Goossens in Schijndel and existed from 1966-1982. The girls rehearsed twice a week at Gonnie's who wrote down all foreign lyrics phonetically for them. They performed on more than one occasion for the Dutch Catholic Broadcast Society (KRO) and in nine other European countries: Germany, Denmark, Norway, Hungary, England, Scotland, Austria and Switzerland. March 2007
The entire content of an audio letter found, back in the 1980s or so, on a cassette retrieved from a dumpster by a certain Matthew Jasper. July 2007

Feeling sluggish? Need some energy? Then take a listen to Melt Banana covering Toots & the Maytals' 1969 classic "Monkey Man." Set the volume to 11 and put it on repeat. You'll feel better in no time. May 2008
The Membranes were three (sometimes four) funny-as-hell lads from Blackpool who stopped by WFMU in 1988 when they were on tour promoting what was then their latest album, "Kiss Ass...Godhead!" The interview, conducted by the great William Berger, was recorded in the old production room of WFMU's former headquarters under the Upsala College Froeberg Hall dormitory. The Membranes talk fast (especially John Robb, the lead singer and obvious "wit" of the band), but it's worth listening closely to hear them rap about Steve Albini, Slade, their favorite Beatles' albums, and where drummer Coofy Sid got his name, among many other things. Songs from the new album are sprinkled between bon mots, and the presentation ends with an impromptu sloppy doo-wop station ID followed by the Membranes' signature song, "Everyone's Going Triple Bad Acid, Yeah!"
