It's weird. Bowie cast such a huge shadow over all the music I loved. I'd kind stopped following what he was doing for several years but when the single from this dropped I remember reading about it and was suddenly curious again and then when he died I immediately went out and bought it. I think it was the first new Bowie album I ever bought since Scary Monsters.

I kept up with Bowie through the later albums and made sure to pre-order Blackstar. I listened to it when it arrived and wept at the beauty. I was devastated when he died and couldn't bear to listen to Blackstar for months. It's so powerful.

I was a fan of Tin Machine too. I played them on WFMU back then. Reeves Gabrel's former roommate used to call in to tell me that he could spot Reeves' playing in just a few notes.
