I read a news article today that Lady Gaga wanted to quit singing and music many years ago, but Tony Bennett told her not to give up citing a quote by Duke Ellington. And she continued music. I thought that was sweet.

Getting the Basie or Woody Herman band on the Sullivan show took significant pull, I would think, since the show already has their own band and network tv would likely involve at least reasonable union pay for all the musicians in the band.
